CaroVail is looking for dedicated individuals to fill seasonal CDL Class A positions across New York State. We are looking for a self-starter who takes personal accountability and pride in their work. Applicant must maintain a respectful and ethical work environment while staying SAFE!

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the loading and unloading of trucks, safe transport of products, assisting with the blending of fertilizer on occasion, the acceptance of deliveries from vendors, and deliveries to customers.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Transport of agricultural products safely from distributors, to plant, to the farm customer
• Assist in mixing and loading crop inputs
• Ability to work and contribute to a team approach with a positive attitude and outlook
• Knowledge and/or experience with agricultural operations (strongly preferred)
• Excellent interpersonal skills with customers and fellow employees
• Willingness to operate material handling equipment including forklift; order picker; pallet jack; and other equipment as required. Good mechanical knowledge and general ability to operate machinery
• Ability to bend and lift boxes and bags up to 50 Ibs.
• Comply with all safety and regulatory procedures outlines by Tri-Valley Crop Center
• Follow assigned routes and schedule for timely deliveries while adhering to all traffic laws and regulations
• Provide general onsite support for other operational activities as determined by plant manager

Requirements:

• Valid Class A CDL with a good driving record and appropriate endorsements
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
• Neatness, attention to detail, and a positive attitude
• Versatility; flexibility; and willingness to accept job tasks

Field Scout Summer Internship

Our mission is to recommend and implement the best products and practices to improve the long-term sustainability and profitability of your farm and business.

Internship Description:

As a CaroVail intern, you will spend the summer scouting and evaluating several different field crops. Depending on location these may include corn, soybeans, alfalfa, wheat, etc. This internship will give you the opportunity to learn from several Certified Crop Advisors, location managers, and other agricultural professionals. This opportunity will also challenge you to learn individually in the field as you face different crop abnormalities, such as pest pressure and nutrient deficiencies, and learn how different environmental factors play a role in crop growth.

You will interact with growers often and will learn how to communicate effectively, efficiently, and fluently. Along with field scouting, you will have the opportunity to learn how to take soil and tissue samples, participate in field trials, observe precision agriculture, such as the usage of drones and variable rate technology, attend different University Field Days, database management, and visit different CaroVail locations to see how each location is unique.

Prospective interns should be motivated, eager to learn, and a solid team player. Driving is a significant requirement of the internship, so healthy driving habits are essential. Communication is important so interns should be able to take directions and offer feedback when appropriate. Expect occasional wet feet, hot days, fun times, cool days, an occasional ice cream with your mentor, a good tan, and a wealth of knowledge.

Specialty Crop Summer Internship

Internship Description:

As a CaroVail intern, you will spend the summer supporting field agronomists, learning, and gaining a better understanding of the specialty crop market. You will experience how CaroVail supports our growers with sound, agronomic advice. Interns will spend the summer scouting and evaluating several different specialty crops including tree fruit, small fruit and berries, vegetables, or anything else that is grown largely for consumption by people or ornamental use.

This internship will give you the opportunity to learn from several Certified Crop Advisors, location managers, and other agricultural professionals. This opportunity will also challenge you to learn individually in the field as you face different crop abnormalities, such as pest pressure and nutrient deficiencies, and learn how different environmental factors play a role in specialty crop growth.

Duties will include:

• Monitoring crops for disease and insects
• Maintaining an insect trapping program and route
• Assisting in taking soil and tissue samples so we can feed our crops more efficiently
• Documenting field notes on both data portal and paper
• Handling confidential information
• Other duties as assigned by management and crop advisors
